This can crusher by BR Tools is a simple aluminum can crusher with similar construction and looks as many other can crushers on the market. The crusher can take cans up to 16 oz size and compress them into approx. 1-1.5 inch small metal pieces. This can crusher is designed for crushing aluminum cans only and will not work with cans from harder materials, such as tin food cans. BR Tools crusher is a vertical type can crusher and can be mounted to a wall or other vertical surface. Material from which the crushing unit is made is steel, although this is not the most durable of steel we have seen and is pretty soft when compared to some high end can crushers. The weight of the unit is 2.2 pounds (1 kg). The crushing mechanism also is made from a steel and it contains a long leveler with a soft, rubber grip that makes the crushing a more comfortable process. As mentioned this can crusher will take cans up to 16 oz size, so it also works with 12 oz and smaller beer and soda cans.
BR Tools 16 oz can crusher has its pros and cons. Starting with pros, the price of this can crusher is very affordable and if you consume a lot of beverages from aluminum cans, the crushing unit will pay itself of in short time. The second and probably the biggest advantage of this can crusher is that it is very easy to use this tool. Long crushing handle makes the compression process of aluminum cans a breeze, so not only adults, but also kids and older people can use the unit without any problems. Also this crusher will take cans up to 16 oz cans, which will be useful for those, who don’t drink just from 12 oz cans all the time, but sometimes use larger cans between 12 and 16 oz.
Although there are some advantages of BR Tools 16 oz can crusher, there are also some disadvantages that you must know. First, the construction of the crusher is quite weak and the crushing process is flimsy if you don’t pinch a can in the middle before inserting it into the crusher. Second, the leveler and hinges of the crusher are also quite weak and you shouldn’t add to much pressure on the crusher. If a can does not want to compress into the crusher, either pinch the sides of the can to makes the crushing easier or use something else to crush that can. And last but not least, cans will pop out in the crushing process if you don’t line them properly, and even then a can might pop out occasionally from the crusher. To be able to crush all cans properly you will either have to hold a can with one hand, while pulling the handle with other hand, or modify the body of a crusher a bit, so cans do not pop out while crushing.
For a better performance of the crusher we suggest to lubricate all moving parts from time to time, especially if it becomes harder to pull the leveler. This not only will make the crushing process easier, but will also prolong the life time of a crusher.
